There is nothing more frustrating than waiting for your visa to come in before travelling. The wait to get back your passport are always the most nerve-wracking; especially if you have already booked your tickets (unless you have a Singaporean passport; that is).
If you’re looking for ease of travel, you can’t do better than a Singaporean passport as Singapore tops the ‘passport index’ for the very first time.
So, what exactly is a passport index?
The passport index ranks passports of the UNs’ 193 countries and six territories, in order of passport power, or the number of countries the holders of a particular passport can visit without first having to procure a visa. Arton Capital- a global advisory firm that specialises in investor programmes- compile this list.
Ever since the first passport index was created, the top ranks had traditionally been held by western European countries, including Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. But for the very first time, the title goes back to Asia this year.
“Visa-free global mobility has become an important factor in today’s world,” shared Armand Arton founder and president of Arton Capital at the recently held Global Citizen Forum in Montenegro. “More and more people every year invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a second passport to offer better opportunity and security for their families,“ added Arton.
In addition to Singapore’s remarkable achievement, the United Arab Emirates was rewarded for a region’s-first. As the Emirati passport has broken the top 30s for the first ever time for an Arab passport.
