While fashions may come and go, there are certain fashion essentials that should have a place in your collection whatever the style temperature. Classic pieces that elevate, add, and work with a multitude of looks. We asked Esquire Middle East’s style expert, Daniel Higgins, to give us his lowdown on the items that can make up a timeless wardrobe.
The comfortable-as-heck day suit
A casual suit you can wear with a loose fit t-shirt and trainers is needed in every man’s wardrobe. A suit that feels as comfortable as your athleisure set is an essential purchase.
Tip: Dry cleaning after every third wear means the quality of fabric will remain for longer. Always hang it up too, no folding just because it’s more casual in style.
The always-sharp dress shoe
A good pair of Derby’s or Loafers is the Esquire choice. These two models straddle casual formal shoe styles that can be worn as more formal dress shoes also depending on the material and colour. A black, dark navy or brown colourway can also be used as a dress shoe but are versatile enough to team with any outfit for most occasions.
Tip: A wooden shoe tree inserted will wick away moisture preventing any odour as well as maintain the quality and shape of your shoes.
The wear-to-anything jacket
Even for the most muted, subtle dressers amongst us, there is something to be said for a high quality, unique style driven jacket. Thrown over the simplest of outfits and suits, a jacket with a simple print, or in a bolder colour or fabric, can add easy style credentials.
Tip: Treat this piece like you would your favourite suit, with a cover to protect it.
The essential-high-quality tee
Boring, yes, but a must have. A quality well-fitted t-shirt in white, black, navy and grey can be worn with any outfit to any occasion. A ribbed crew neck style from trusted brands such as Gap, Mr Porter, Cos or Hugo Boss will last you a lifetime.
Tip: Go for different sizes depending on the occasion, fitted for spring days at the beach, oversized with jeans for casual weekend looks.
