So what do you wear to the ‘world’s richest horserace’?

The Dubai World Cup is upon us again, kicking off on Saturday March 25, to be precise. Along with the thundering of hooves and a clinking of glasses, comes a rather easy excuse for Dubai’s sharp set to jazz up their summer suits.

If history is anything to go by (and it usually is…), then chances are it’s going to be a long, warm day trackside, so you’ll need to choose your outfit carefully. To do just that we have enlisted the help of the clever folk at Suit Supply to help us illustrate a few key style tips on what to wear to the races.

Suits

With any suit or jacket, it’s crucial to ensure that it is the correct length. If you’re not sure about how to determine that, a quick trip to a tailor (or to the switched on Suit Supply lot) will let you know what your best fit is.

Almost as important as the fit, is the colour. Regardless of style trends, you should stick to a colour that complements your complexion and hair. Whatever you are most comfortable with is always better than blindly following a fashion trend.

Thirdly, make sure you choose something lightweight, this is the Dubai World Cup after all. Wools, cottons and linen blends will help you in the warm weather. We’d even suggested opting for an unlined jackets as they feel amazing. You should feel powerful with your suit, it should stimulate your confidence and enhance your swagger at the races.

Accessorising

Accessorising is essentially a creative flourish to any outfit. Don’t over do it, but think about colour, contrast and the effect you want your outfit to have. Tie and bowtie? Bright or dark? Pocket square or tie bar or both? An informed selection of accessories can make or break the entire look for a man, so pay special attention to this when picking your outfit.

Shoes

Comfort! Comfort! Comfort! It is very hard to feel confident and enjoy your day if you’re constantly rocking back on your feet to find that spot that doesn’t hurt. If you’re going to spring for some new shoes at the mall, don’t forget to break them in a few days before the World Cup.

In addition to comfort, shoes should be used to enhance and extend your outfit – so if you’re going for a an adventerous look, then pick out a trendy shoe. On the other hand if your outfit is slick and classic, then a classy shoe is your best bet. Just remember ‘classy’ should not limit your creativity.”

Etiquette

And last but not least, be respectful. The only thing more attractive to women than a well-dressed gentleman, is one who treats people right. Make sure to pay attention to your grooming for the day as well, a polished look is vital. Remember, if you feel good you look good. Nothing is as stylish as confidence.
