You can now order a Tesla using Uber in Dubai
Uber has a new service in Dubai called UberONE. It lets users book a ride in a Tesla Model X. The service, which is in partnership with the Dubai Taxi Corporation, is part of a broader push by Uber to curb C02 emissions, as well as driver costs in the region.
It also explains what the heck happened to the 50 Model X cars the Dubai government purchased last month.
The new luxury service previously launched in Madrid, which provides an excellent example of what we can expect in Dubai when UberONE becomes official this week, Tuesday 10 October.
It will be similar to Uber Black, the more luxury version of Uber's services. The primary difference is that Uber One will use only all-electric vehicles. At the moment, it has a fleet of around 50 Tesla Model X cars, but there's no information on whether or not that will change (or if Uber will add electric vehicles from other brands in future).
As far as pricing goes, UberONE will be more expensive. There's no telling exactly how much until the service kicks off next Tuesday, but we'd expect a similar mark-up to its Uber Black / Black XL services.
Currently, a journey from Dubai's Burj Al Arab to the Burj Khalifa costs AED60-70 using Uber Black and AED70-90 using Uber XL.
There are 50 cars on the road, so waiting time is expected to be around 2-3 minutes per ride.
UberONE Dubai services start next week, on Tuesday 10 October. Just swipe up from the Uber app to book your very own Model X
