'Twisted Metal' is being re-made for TV
- Sony has said it will turn Twisted Metal game franchise into a television series
- Sony Pictures Chairman has said the project is currently in pre-production
- The series is thought to be akin to Battle Royale and Mad Max
- This comes off the back of news that Uncharted will be getting a film/TV show
PlayStation Productions - which is Sony's new film and TV division set around video games - will be making Twisted Metal into a TV Series. Brian Taylor - the director of Crank and Happy! - is rumoured to be onboard.
The news comes from Sony Pictures' Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra, who confirmed there is a TV show currently in production. "We have a TV show we just agreed to get underway," said Vinciquerra.
Twisted Metal hit consoles back in 1995 on the original PlayStation console and immediately hit notoriety for its violence characterized by a weaponized ice cream truck and a psychotic clown named Sweet Tooth.
It’s thought that the plot of Twisted Metal – which was akin to a Battle Royale film with cars – would be something along the lines of The Purge franchise and Mad Max.
Vinciquerra also admitted that there was an update on Sony’s long-rumoured Uncharted franchise and that it was currently in pre-production.
The Uncharted film is currently associated with director Dan Trachtenberg (the man behind 10 Cloverfield Lane and Sony Pictures anti-superhero series The Boys).
