For the UAE’s elite sneakerheads, owning a slice of sports history is about to get real. Imagine having a pair of Michael Jordan’s game-worn sneakers sitting in your Dubai penthouse. Well, that dream is closer to reality than you think.

In a Sotheby’s auction that has collectors from New York to Abu Dhabi buzzing, six of Michael Jordan’s signed and game-worn championship sneakers will be auctioned next month for an estimated value of AED 37 million (time to start saving your allowance, sneakerheads).

The live auction will commence at Sotheby’s NYC headquarters, starting at 10am on February 2 (or 7pm UAE time).

The collection consists of: Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XXII (1997), and Air Jordan XIV (1998), which also includes signed photographs by Bulls team photographer, Bill Smith.

According to Sotheby’s, which is handling the sale, the collection “represents the most valuable and significant collection of Air Jordan sneakers ever brought to market.”

In April 2022, a pair of Nike Air Jordan XIII sneakers signed and worn by Jordan himself during the 1998 NBA finals were sold by Sotheby’s for a whopping AED 8 million, setting the record for the most expensive sneakers ever sold at an auction. More info on the auction here

And in case you can’t afford this, which most of us probably can’t, still, here’s a highlight reel to get you through the week.
