Religion and streetwear may not be two ideas one would immediately associate with each other, but that’s exactly what Farrukh Ershad – designer and founder of streetwear label 5ivepillars – chose to build a brand around in 2012. Beginning as a start-up venture, the company grew from an idea in a bedroom, to t-shirts sold at events, into a full-fledged clothing line.

5ivepillars’ SS25 collection was recently revealed, and is a loving celebration of Islamic heritage, featuring a nod to the sunnah of Archery practiced by the beloved Prophet. With modest silhouettes and a mostly neutral colour palette, dominated by shades of black, grey and white interspersed with earthy tones of brown and green, the collection echoes the ethos of the brand with every piece.

Religious phrases are projected onto the modern streetwear aesthetic in a symbolic fusion of tradition and modernity.

Set against the backdrops of sandy mountains and sprawling deserts astride magnificent horses, the Spring/Summer line-up consists of tracksuit sets, camo vests, bracelets inspired by tasbih beads, and graphic tees and hoodies.

The collection incorporates traditional Islamic elements with iconic streetwear pieces as a nod to fashion history; the Rug Tracksuit set features a patchwork component that evokes the rugs associated with the Arab and Islamic parts of the world, juxtaposed with the very classic tracksuits in an ode to streetwear from the 80s. It’s a happy marriage of two very different legacies – crafted to coexist beautifully in contemporary fashion.

The collection is available to shop on the 5ivepillars website and is shipping worldwide from the US and UAE.
