-The Esquire 100 - Thomas Lundgren
Thomas Lundgren’s version of events goes like this: in 1993 he was visited in the middle of the night by an angel, who told him his mission in life was to save the world from IKEA.
“The angel told me I had to save the world from soulless, overpriced retailers.” Three years later, THE One home stores brand – or “theatre” as he prefers to call it, was launched in Abu Dhabi. Fast forward 22 years and Lundgren owns over 20 stores in the region, having expanded the brand into THE One Basics, THE One Junior and FUSION by THE One.
But that’s just the beginning: Lundgren has used to success of his stores and considerable wealth to devote a huge amount of time into CSR activities including THE Onederworld, a Sustainable Village Community programme.
Huge education projects have been completed in Kenya and India, to help locals break out of the poverty cycle. And when Lundgren isn’t busy saving the world, he can be found watching heavy metal bands perform across the globe.
