On a small, quaint Greek island a gentleman named Kyriakos spent years perfecting his favourite dishes, sharing the rich and delicious flavours of his country with his friends and family.
When his son, Christos, later relocated to Dubai, Kyriakos eagerly came to visit. As he explored the vibrant city, he felt that traditional Greek food was not easy to find. So Kyriakos decided that he needed to share the rich history and flavoursome cuisine with the UAE community.
That vision takes form in OPA, the newly opened, upscale-casual Greek restaurant at the Fairmont Hotel Dubai. Offering an impressive selection of authentic dishes that combine classic Hellenic techniques with a Mediterranean touch, the menu includes a delectable assortment of tender grilled meats, zesty salads, fresh fish preparations and mouth-watering desserts inspired by the Grecian islands. And, oh yes, there is plate smashing.
In fact, that is where the restaurant derives its name from. ‘Opa!’ is traditionally what is shouted out in Greek weddings during traditional dances that are accompanied by the playful custom of smashing plates to celebrate the occasion. Bringing this unique tradition to Dubai, OPA puts on live performances every evening, starring dancers flown straight from Greece who dance around guests and tables, smashing plates as they go.
