-The Influencers - Ahmed Al Nasheet (aka DVLZGame)
As the first Arab-language video game commentator, Al Nasheed tapped into a huge online community, and his role as a TV presenter made him the face of gaming in the region. As well as presenting, he also does voiceover work and has even started his own clothing line.
How did you get into gaming?
Online gaming was taking off; I started commentating about it in Arabic. It got really popular, so then I started doing voiceovers and localisation, which eventually led me to having my own TV show.
What do you think makes you stand out?
A lot of it is down to timing. To be the first in anything is tough because there are no guidelines. It’s actually the case of you creating a pathway for others to follow.
Who is your style icon?
I love hip-hop and the streetwear vibe, so I like to keep tabs on sites like Hypebeast and look at people like Pharrell Williams and Drake. I admire Kanye because I have just released my own clothing line and I like looking at how he succeed in his field before branching out into his own line.
You’re pretty well spread over social media. Which platform works best for you?
For me it all started with YouTube, where my channel had over 100 million views. But after that I started to evolve to Snapchat and Instagram, both of which are huge in the Middle East. I love the interaction you get on those platforms.
