Italian designer apologises for calling Madonna a 'human toilet'
The creative dirctor of fashion brand Country of Milan has apologised, after calling Madonna a 'human toilet' on Facebook.
Marcelo Burlon posted a scathing rant after the popstar was photographed wearing his label. The designer shared pictures of Madonna wearing the outfit, then referred to her as 'la cessa' - which is Italian slang for toilet.
Shortly after the post went online, it was picked up by Instagram account Diet Prada - which often holds brands and designers accountable in the fashion industry. The account called Burlon a 'misogynist' and 'human garbage' in response.
Madonan was papped on Sunday wearing head-to-toe Country of Milan clothing. Normally, brands seek to use the fact that an international celebrity is helping to publicise its clothes; but not so for Burlon.
However, after being called out online the designer quickly removed the post and began apologising:
"I made a huge mistake and I would first and foremost like to apologize for my stupidity. Social media is a tool which can often be used for a frivolous laugh, but what I really learned today is that this should never ever be at the expense of another person, or group of people. I would like to ask forgiveness and express my most sincere regret to Madonna and anyone whom I might have offended, insulted, or touched."
