This provocative watch brand just made a ‘living’ wristwatch
H. Moser & Cie. Is a watch brand so rare that most people outside the world of watches won’t have heard of it. But within the industry, they’re infamous.
Every year – ahead of one of the world’s glitziest watch conferences – H. Moser releases a watch meant to divide the industry, and inevitably become a major talking point over that year’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève (SIHH for short).
Two years ago it announced a ‘Mad’ wristwatch that was so Swiss, it was made of a Swiss cheese-based resin. Last year, it produced the ‘frankenwatch’ which featured design elements from just about every ‘iconic’ watch brand in the world. And this year is no different.
See the Nature Watch in action
For 2019, H. Moser has lifted the lid on the ‘Nature’ watch. It’s ‘100% Swiss grown and made’ and features a mechanical movement adorned by plants native to Switzerland. The dial is made of natural stone and lichen while the strap is made from woven grass.
Under functions, H. Moser boasts the watch displays both the hours and minutes, purifies oxygen, recycles CO2 and contributes to reducing our carbon footprint.
Of course, this is all part of H. Moser’s attempts to remind the greater Swiss Watch Industry the importance of sustainability.
It’s a little less divisive than last year’s model (the brand famously received a cease and desist complaint from one of the watch brands it poked fun at), but one wits books h a good cause.
The Nature Watch will be displayed at Moser’s stand at SIHH, and the brand has pledged to donate ten children’s books on the environment for every person who checks it out in person.
