Although Samsung has (perhaps surprisingly) long been leading the race of most purchased smart phones, Apple has seen a sudden surge in sales just in the last few months, specifically in China. With sales rising nearly 40% in May, sales specifically increased by 1.425 million smartphones to 5.028 million units, in comparison to 3.603 million a year prior.

Apple’s May sales continued their upward trend, marking two consecutive months of exponential growth, which included a drastic 52% increase in April. This comes as quite the surprise, as in early 2023, Apple faced a 37% decline in sales during the first two months.

Presumably thrilled, Apple CEO Tim Cook predicted that iPhone sales will continue to grow in specific markets such as China, following an 8.1% decrease in second quarter revenue from the Greater China region.

Huawei recently introduced its latest series of high-end smartphones, the Pura 70, which resulted in Apple reducing the prices of their smartphones, a decision which has clearly paid off.

For the moment, Huawei remains the current champion of smartphone sales in China, as phone sales have increased by 16.5% to 30.33 million units in May.

What is the best selling smartphone brand in the UAE?

In the UAE, Samsung remains the top smartphone brand, with Apple lying just behind, although Huawei is quickly catching up due to its continuously improving cameras and other gadgets, but a main turnoff from customers is the phone’s inability to use any Google related apps.
