Apple, in a somewhat low-key move, just quietly rolled out an updated iPad Mini, giving it a generous boost in speed and overall performance.
This new model marks the first revamp for the pint-sized tablet since 2021. It’s up for grabs starting at AED2,100 (US$500), with pre-orders open and shipping set to begin next Wednesday. While the release didn’t come with the usual fanfare, it’s clear that Apple is gearing up to keep its miniature tech relevant in the budding AI age.
Let’s get into the specs, because that’s where the magic — or math — lies. The new Mini houses an A17 Pro chip, ensuring a 30% faster CPU and a 25% faster GPU. Plus, Apple boasts that its Neural Engine is twice as fast as before, primed to handle the AI-powered future.
There’s also a new 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display for your viewing pleasure, as well as support for Apple’s latest Pencil Pro.
Storage also got a leap forward, too, with the basic model now offering 128GB instead of the former 64GB. Coupled with faster Wi-Fi 6E and a speedier USB-C port, everything about the iPad Mini screams “efficiency.” Although it’s still the same lovable design, just packed with more punch.

A splash of color has been added to the otherwise familiar design. This time around, Apple introduces the iPad Mini in new shades of purple and blue. However, if you’re expecting these colors to mimic the vividness seen in the latest iPhone models, you might want to temper those expectations — they’re more of a gentle whisper of color.
For design purists, it’s worth noting this model bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor. The last update was a significant overhaul, and this release feels more akin to an upgrade than a redesign. But considering Apple’s recent AI ambitions, it’s all about ensuring their devices have the tech to match.

Apple’s sporadic updates to the Mini may have fueled rumors about its discontinuation. Yet, they seem to remain committed, albeit on a different release schedule from the rest of their tablets.
If you’re eyeing other iPads, Apple refreshed its lineup earlier this year. The Air got an M4 chipset, the Pro had a facelift, and the basic model saw a price drop to $349. So, the Mini’s updates are more about solidifying its place in this familial lineup rather than standing out too boldly.
As for Middle Eastern Apple enthusiasts, you can pre-order the new iPad mini starting today, October 15. They will start shipping and be available in all good Apple stores starting October 23.
