The beast of Bodmin has been outdone; there’s a new Jaguar on the scene that everyone’s talking about. In the latest XE S model, Jaguar have created a prize vehicle intended to take on the German automobile superpowers, a driver’s car positioned towards the sports saloon market, a market currently dominated by the likes of BMW, Mercedes and Audi.
Even before you get behind the wheel, the hints of the upgraded performance of the XE are evident from the outset, with chrome side vents and large front air intakes, and a discreet rear spoiler and rear lights, inspired by from popular F-TYPE model.
In a pleasing British partnership, Jaguar has teamed with audio experts, Meridian , to provide sound system specific to this model, from the size of the speakers to the sound that’s tailored to the interior acoustics of the car. In drive mode, an electronic steering assist smooths out long corners and tightens up in the compact ones, a nifty addition when you consider the supercharged three litre V6 that reaches 0-100km/h in under five seconds. The engineers at the Solihull factory had previously not considered this technology ready for their models, but as the phrase goes, good things come to those who… buy Jags.
As well as reducing CO2 emissions by three per cent, the new electronic system is another stand-out feature. Pair this with double wishbone front suspension, and you’re on for a smooth ride.
