Man versus food
It may be based on a thriving establishment in London and billed as a British-style bar and restaurant, but there is a distinct whiff of Transatlantic influence in the Reform Social and Grill, located in the heart of The Lakes community in Dubai. The deep mahogany bar, the floor-to-ceiling windows that open out onto a generous, wood-decked veranda and the crisply aproned waiting staff are perhaps more Martha’s Vineyard than Mayfair, a perception that it hardly undermined by the outstanding selection of steak and seafood on the oversized menu.
But we’re quibbling. The Reform has become a fixture on the Dubai dining scene in relatively short time and with good reason, providing inhabitants of the Lakes, JLT and the Springs with superior food in a relaxed, family-sized setting.
They certainly know how to please, too. This August, they have launched special Man Versus Food deals for diners with eyes every bit as large as their stomachs. For the remainder of the month, men – and we are assuming men only – will be able to test their gullets with one of the following gastronomic challenges:
Gentleman’s Burger Challenge
A double burger meal that includes two 100 percent Angus beef burgers with a combined weight of 340g of beef. Dhs115
Double Pie Challenge
As its name suggests, this is literally two chicken and mushroom pies served with chips and gravy. Dhs180
Dad’s Double Couch Roast
On Saturdays and Sundays only, this consists of extra large roast of pork or beef (or indeed mixed) and two Yorkshire puddings. Dhs160
As far as we know, there are no celebratory t-shirts or honours boards to reward the victors, but a satisfied grin and a pleasant credit card bill ought to suffice.
