American Trade Hotel
This hotel in Casco Viejo – the historic district of Panama City – may well be the first from Atelier Ace without the Ace moniker, but it bears all its usual hallmarks of style and intelligence.
Opened in the autumn of 2013, the hotel was designed and built in accordance with local preservation laws and UNESCO World Heritage protection and conservation guidelines. The hotel’s style owes much to the cultural diversity of the area, with styles ranging from Austrian secessionist to Mexican modernist to Italian postmodern – a nod to the building’s past and current position as a global crossroads for international trade and cultural influences. Finally, it’s clearly invested with an inter-generational sense of luxury and place, with the feel of a landmark passed down through generations by an extended Panamanian family.
The fact that this property is at the center of the historic quarter as well as moments away from the business district means that it enjoys being the bustling center of attention, and as a result is the perfect base to begin and end any Panamanian adventures you may be considering this year.
