The world’s largest IKEA will be in Philippines’ Mall of Asia
IKEA has gone all out for its first store in the Philippines. The Swedish furniture store is building the largest branch ever in the world, in Manila Bay’s Mall of Asia.
The new IKEA Pasay City store will span more than 65,000 square metres (which is equivalent to 150 basketball courts).
Like other branches around the world, the store will be split into two shopping levels and feature a full IKEA restaurant, as well as a token playroom for kids.
The reason for its massive size isn’t just down to the show floor; it will also hold a call centre, and e-commerce hub and a warehouse. That will make the Philippines’ first IKEA five floors in all.
IKEA has said that it expects the store to have more than 8,000 products and attract over 7 million visitors every year (more than 20,000 people per day).
The Swedish brand was due to open the store earlier this year, but has pushed the date back to early 2021 due to the coronavirus.
