New Nintendo Switch console coming in time for holidays
There have been quiet rumours all this year that Nintendo will bring out a new Switch console. Now it seems to be launching two.
Nintendo couldn't sell its current Switch console quick enough earlier in the year, with those heading into lockdown panic-buying so many of the Japanese consoles that it led to worldwide shortages.
It seems all those sales gave Nintendo a bit of a shot in the arm, and now industry analysts are saying we should expect new Switch consoles either by December, or early next year.
According to Bloomberg, Nintendo will release a more premium version of the Switch console with upgraded graphics, as well as a cheaper handheld version. There is no word on specifications, but sources say that the new Nintendo Switch will keep pace with Sony's PlayStation 5 and Microsoft's Xbox Series X with 4K graphics.
Both next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft are due out in November, just in time for the holiday season.
Nintendo's focus on a new console does explain its lacklustre game release schedule this year. The most exciting launch of the year has been Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
So far, Nintendo has shifted more than 60 million Nintendo Switch consoles since its launch in March 2017.
