Netflix is testing a shuffle button, streaming channels
The new feature would automatically play movies and television shows according to a genre – effectively making them dedicated streaming channels drawing off content in the Netflix library.
Some viewers woke up yesterday and noticed a Shuffle Play button on their Netflix TV app’s profile page, right beneath their display name. To check if you have the no feature, head to the left-side menu bar and select your profile.
The button says ‘Play Something’. Give it a click and Netflix will serve up something it thinks you might like, using its algorithm. It could be something you have previously watched, something that fits your profile, or anything on your watch list.
The idea is a great one. Netflix has long been the butt of jokes around endless scrolling of content. This way you can let Netflix decide what you want to want to watch, especially when you don’t necessarily know what you want.
Netflix began testing the new feature back in 2019, via its Android App. Then it trialed it through Amazon Fire’s app.
This latest worldwide test appears to have landed on just the Netflix TV app – and it is still not available to all users, or via Netflix.com.
