These Dubai doggos are keeping travelers safe from COVID-19
The UAE has become the first country to use K9 police units to detect COVID-19 cases at the airport.
The sniffer dogs have been stationed at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports to detect traces of the coronavirus from passengers. According to authorities, the dogs can detect the virus with 92 per cent accuracy after being specially trained.
The dogs – which you can see in the video below – are trained with samples and then track possible infections using swabs gathered from passengers. The samples can then be tested in ‘under a minute’.
It is thought that if the practice continues to be successful, sniffer dogs might be used in other large facilities such as malls, expos and concerts.
The dogs themselves are kept separate from passengers, meaning there is no direct contact and no chance of cross-contamination.
The trial was put together following brainstorming workshops from Dubai Health Authority, as well as several other countries.
