Margot Robbie to star in Disney's new Pirates of the Caribbean movie
Margot Robbie is being lined up as Disney's newest swashbuckler for the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
The Worlds of DC star is set to reunite with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson for a project that will be based on entirely new characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
There are no other plot details about this female-driven Pirates adaptation, or who Robbie will be playing in the film, as of yet.
Her movie will be a spin-off from the recently-announced reboot of the main Pirates of the Caribbean series that may or may not feature the return of Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Asked about Depp's status with the main reboot from Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott, Jerry Bruckheimer told Collider: "We're working on a draft right now and hopefully we'll get it shortly and give it to Disney and hopefully they'll like it.
"We've been working on it for a little bit... The one we're developing right now, we're not sure quite what Johnny's role is going to be.
"So, we're going to have to see."
Pirates of the Caribbean most recently released its fifth instalment Salazar's Revenge in 2017, raking in the second-lowest box office total in franchise history with $794 million worldwide.
Next up for Robbie is a return to the World of DC with The Suicide Squad, in which she'll reprise her role as Harley Quinn for director James Gunn alongside John Cena, Idris Elba, Viola Davis and Peter Capaldi.
