'Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War' will be 2020’s big release
With the success of Call of Duty’s return to the Modern Warfare saga, rumours suggest that the shooter will once again embrace nostalgia with a new Black Ops game currently in the works.
It will be the fifth game in the sub-series, and is rumoured to take place ten years after the events of the first Black Ops title. The story will revolve around the Cold War.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will supposedly take the franchise’s annual October/November release date, and be available on PlayStation and Xbox, as well as the PC.
It’s not known whether or not the new game will be available on next-generation consoles (the PS5 and Xbox Series X are both due to launch around December this year).
The rumours come from multiple sources, including a well-known industry expert and Call of Duty’s own game – Warzone.
Call of Duty leaker Okami posted a modified cover a Call of Duty Black Ops game featuring the Cold War monicker. Meanwhile, gamers have been finding Easter Eggs within Call of Duty’s Battle Royale game, including a bunker with a nuclear warhead, and an iconic Cold War spy plane.
When Warzone launched, Activision staff said the game mode would be used to weave together threads from past and future Call of Duty Games.
We know that Call of Duty: Warzone will support next-generation consoles (with updated graphics, natch). So one would presume that the next Black Ops game would, also.
