WhatsApp takes on Zoom with new ‘Messenger Rooms’ video features
Facebook has just launched Messenger Rooms, it’s real-time video conferencing playform that will compete against Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. Now there are reports that Facebook will integrate it into Whatsapp for desktop.
Whatsapp has already began testing its Messenger Rooms feature, and has mad it available for select users to test. The feature is expected to be rolled out very soom.
Messenger Rooms works like Google Meet and Zoom, letting you create and join video meetings. Facebook unveiled the service last week.
Zoom has come under fire recently over its flaky security policies, while others like Google Meet require users to have a Gmail account.
When he launched the product, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg indicated that it would soon be supported across Whatsapp, Instagram and also Portal – Facebook’s other video platform. If Meeting Rooms works seamlessly across all of Facebook’s family apps – that would make for a huge potential audience.
Whatsapp Messenger rooms would get their own shortcut, and allow users to be automatically taken to the Rooms window before starting a call.
Whatsapp’s video calling feature will take some time to rollout, however. And it’s still unclear whether or not the service will be allowed to be used here in the UAE.
