Dubai's World Trade Centre converted to a 3,000 bed field hospital for COVID-19 patients
Dubai World Trade Centre has been temporiarily converted into a field hospital with the capacity to treat around 3,000 patients during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
According to Dubai public health officials, the facility has been set up as a precautionary measure.
“We will have more than two field hospitals ready in Dubai to be ready for any situation,” Humaid Al Qutami, the director general of the Dubai Health Authority. “We will have more than two field hospitals ready in Dubai in the coming days to be ready for any situation.”
Dubai is also setting up two more field hospitals with an additional capacity of 4,000 to 5,000 beds.
“When it comes to the increase of hospital surge capacity, we are prepared for all scenarios,” he said.
The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention announced 412 new coronavirus cases across the country, bringing the total number to 4,933. The number of deaths in the UAE now stands at 28.
