How to watch football stars compete in the FIFA ‘Stay and Play Cup’?
With live football now a thing of the past due to COVID-19 distancing measures, players from 20 top European clubs are going to duke it out online.
The FIFA Stay and Play Cup is a five-day tournament that kicks off on April 15.
Already confirmed are Brazil’s Vincius Jr. (Real Madrid) and Bruno Guimaraes (Olympique Lyonnais), Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea) and Phil Foden (Manchester City), Sergino Dest (Ajax) and Borussia Dortmund’s Ioanee (Real Madrid).
Instead of putting on their boots, each will be picking up a gamepad and headset for a series of one-on-one matches via video game FIFA 20.
Matches begin at 8pm Central Europe time each day, and then broadcast live via the EA Sports Twitch TV Channel – twitch.tv/easportsfifa.
The tournament doubles as a fundraising effort for the Coronavirus Relief Fund, which is run by Global Giving. EA Sports will be donating US$1 million to the charity, while providing tournament viewers other ways to support the campaign.
As per usual on Twitch, there will be many opt-in perks for those watching, including the chance to receive in-game items from FIFA 20.
The clubs involved include:Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur from the English Premier League; Olympique Lyonnais, Marseille and PSG from France's Ligue 1; Dortmund from Germany's Bundesliga; and Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Valencia from Spain's La Liga.
Also involved are Porto (Portugal), AS Roma (Italy), Ajax and PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands), AIK and Djurgården (Sweden), HJK Helsinki (Finland) and FC Copenhagen and Brondby (Denmark).
