Conor McGregor is ready to make his UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone next week
The 'Notorious' Conor McGregor is about to make the comeback of his life when he returns to the UFC cage next week after a 15 month absence. He faces off against American Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in Las Vegas on January 18, 2020.
Unsurprisingly, McGregor will receive highest UFC purse for his return fight revealed to be around US $ 4.9 million. He also gets a bonus depending on the number of people who tune into the pay-per-view to watch his comeback. His last fight against Nurmagomedov broke the UFC’s box office record with about 2.4m PPV’s sold, according to The Sun.
So what do we know about the fight so far?
The 31-year-old is set to return to the UFC cage after 15 months. For his fight return fight, he will be facing American star Donald Cerrone in the UFC Octagon in Las Vegas.
Why have we not seen the Irishman in the UFC Octagon since 2018?
His last fight was against the Russian Khabib Nurmagimedov in October 2018 which resulted in a massive ringside brawl and suspensions and fines all around.
Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor in October 2018 in Las Vegas which now forever entrenched in viewers' memory for the massive ringside brawl.
The fight led to two of his teammates - Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhogoy - being handed one-year suspensions, which were later shortened to allow the UFC to book Khabib for the Abu Dhabi fight in 2019 against Dustin Poirier.
Who is Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone?
Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone, 36, will face off next week against Conor McGregor in what will be his sixth fight in 14 months. While that may be crazy for normal humans, the elite fighter is ready to take on one of the meanest fighting machines in UFC.
Cerrone originally grew up in Colorado and lost his last fight to Justin Gaethje via first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night 158 in September 2019.

Speaking to ESPN, McGregor spoke about why he chose to fight Cerrone and said: “Well I said I’d fight him right?” revealed McGregor. “I mean, me and Donald have a history, a long history, well not a long history, but we’ve had a history. It’s an exciting bout. It’s a fan friendly bout. It’s a fight that excites me and it’s a fight that I said I would take.”
“I’m happy to come back and have my comeback fight and the beginning of my season against Donald and I look forward to it,” continued McGregor. “It’s going to be a good night and I’m going to shine here on January 18th. I’m going to create magic inside the Octagon like I have done many times before, but this is going to be something special.”
