McDonald's will launch its first vegan meal in January
If you thought Greggs vegan sausage roll was an abomination, outrage and atrocity then you'll be pleased to learn that McDonald's will soon be going one step further by launching a fully vegan meal in January, just in time for Veganuary.
McDonald's new Veggie Dippers Meal will be available from 2nd of January and will consist of dippers - made from red peppers, rice, sundried tomato pesto and a split pea mix - served with vegan fries. The meal will cost £4.99 (the dippers can be bought on their own for £3.29), and a Happy Meal version will also be available.
"In the last 12 months we’ve seen an 80 per cent uplift in customers ordering vegetarian options at McDonald’s, so it is time for the brand famous for the dippable McNugget to launch a dippable option for our vegetarian, vegan and flexitarian customers," said Thomas O’Neill, head of food marketing for McDonald’s UK & Ireland.
"The Veggie Dippers are a delicious addition to our menu and we’re looking forward to seeing what customers make of our first vegan Extra Value Meal and Happy Meal in the New Year.’
If the news of McDonald's first vegan meal is giving you a weird sense of deja vu that may be because the vegan dippers were previously part of The Spicy Veggie Wrap, although the wraps weren't sold as vegan because they passed through the same toaster as buns that contained milk and the dippers weren’t prepared in a way that prevented contamination with McDonald's other offerings.
This time though, McDonald's vegan meal will be prepared separately from the fast food chain's other meat and dairy products and has been granted full Vegan Society accreditation.
