You can order Apple’s eye-watering Mac Pro this week
Apple unveiled its most powerful Mac Pro ever back in July, giving fans a sneak peek at the US$6,000 computer at the Worldwide Developer’s Conference.
Now, after months of speculation, Apple has unveiled that you can pre-order the infamous cheese grater starting tomorrow, December 10. That said, Apple still hasn’t provided any information as to when the product will actually ship.
When the Mac Pro was announced, it immediately drew the internet’s meme gaze for its uncanny resemblance to a cheese grater (the holes on the front of the device are actually vents for its fans, which keep the computer quiet and cool).
That said, this computer could certainly do some damage to a block of cheddar.
The Mac Pro starts at US$6,000 and packs Intel Xeon processors (up to 28 cores!) and 1.2 terabytes of RAM (terabytes!). It also comes with eight PCIe expansion slots and two Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics cards (two!).
That expensive asking price is solely for the computer, and not the display. Apple’s Pro Display XDR – which has been ‘optimised’ for the Mac Pro – features a 32-inch 6K Retina display with 10-bit colour, 1,600-nit brightness and a whopping million to 1 contrast ratio.
The cost of all that tech? US$5,000 (meaning if you wanted to pick up a basic Mac Pro and monitor for Xmas, that would set you back US$11,000 in total – AED40,000)
