YouTube is making an interactive film similar to Bandersnatch
Continuing to bolster its line of ‘YouTube Originals’ content, the video platform has called forth Markiplier to star in a choose-your-own-adventure heist movie.
A Heist with Markiplier is as it sounds, a heist with YouTube veteran Markiplier. It will be presented as an interactive experience where Markiplier talks to you though the film and you are given a variety of options to pick throughout.
It is explained the film will feature 31 possible endings and 61 different videos. The film itself follows you and Mark attempting to succeed in a highly complicated and dangerous museum heist, stealing a highly valuable and mysterious artefact.
The interactive film will be a first for YouTube and join the likes of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch in the growing library of interactive movies. Bandersnatch, as it is abbreviated is described as a film where: “A young programmer starts to question reality when he adapts a mad writer's fantasy novel into a video game.”
The BAFTA-nominated film was released in December 2018 and swiftly got rave reviews and gathered a hefty cult following. It is yet to be seen if A Heist with Markiplier can replicate this success.
The trailer for the YouTube Original shows ‘you’ snooping around a guarded museum at night, going through various situations including evading gunfire, falling through tunnels, being imprisoned and even being threatened with a massive laser-cannon.
Starting way back in 2012, Markiplier is one of the most subscribed YouTubers on the platform, specialising in gaming videos, horror videos and skits. As of June 2019, his channel has over 11 billion total video views and 24 million subscribers.
The film is slated for an October 30 release, you can check out the trailer below:
