Who is new Matrix lead Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
It’s been confirmed that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will be the new star of the Wachowski’s sequel to the Matrix trilogy.
The actor will star alongside the original cast, including Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Warner Brothers announced the fourth Matrix movie in August, and the film is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2020.
But who is the new lead Yahya Abdul-Mateen II? What’s he been in before? It turns out, quite a lot:
Most recently, Abdul-Mateen played Black Manta is the new Aquaman film starring Jason Mamoa. He also starred in Jordan Peele’s US, and stars alongside Dakota Fanning in Sweetness in the Belly.
Abdul-Mateen grew up with a Muslim father and a Christian mother, although has a particularly common Muslim name. Before he became an actor, he used his degree in architecture as a city planner in San Francisco.
Abdul-Mateen graduated from Yale School of Drama. So it’s no wonder he’s able to play such a range of roles.
Other roles you might have seen him in include Baywatch and The Greatest Showman. But he didn’t make it big until his performance in Netflix’s The Get Down.
