Instagram makes ‘Throwback Thursdays’ an official feature in 'Create Mode'
Instagram continues to tighten its grip on daily users with a nostalgic new function.
Social media is a game of incremental improvements; change the platform too much and the legions of users become scared off by alien features, innovative it too little and it all becomes stale. Sitting someone in the sweet spot is the new ‘Create’ mode, making all your nostalgic ‘Throwback Thursday’ posts a lot easier to whip up.
Instagram’s ‘Stories’ feature is similar the functionality of Snapchat, adding images or videos together to create a short update for your hopefully-interested followers. Its ‘Create’ mode gives users the ability to show countdowns, host quizzes, take polls, or answer questions from followers. The latest feature however is the most nostalgic.

Scroll through the options now and you will see the ‘On This Day’, a feature which looks back on an event on your Instagram that happened on the same day as now but in a different year. You can then share this trip down memory lane to your ‘Stories’. The memory can be the anniversary you followed someone, a picture you posted, or any other Instagram activity that day.
The ‘Create Mode’ also puts all of the Instagram interactive stickers, such as the polls and countdowns in one dedicated, easy to find place. Previously you’d have to do a bit of digging to find these fun features.
Putting all the interactive stickers in one place and adding a nostalgia feature may not sound like big changes, but it’s just another way Instagram can stay fresh as people have more functions to play around with at 2am in bed.
