RJ creates $18,000 comic book Joker inspired watch
RJ Watches is no stranger to doing some whacky collaborations, whether it’s Mario, Pac-Man, and now Joker.
Raking in close to US $100 million at opening, Todd Phillips’ Joker is living up to the hype it created for itself. Jumping on the Joker bandwagon now is super high-end watch brand RJ, coming in with a tasteful Joker edition wristwatch.
Doing a watch that pays homage to a literal anarchic maniac can be tricky, though RJ Watches have pulled it off with a masculine chronograph with a host of subtle Joker tributes.
The ‘Arraw The Joker’ is styled with playing card ‘Aces’ acting as the tips of the hour and minute hands, as well as the hour indices for the dial. The seconds hand of the watch is finished in purple with a letter ‘J’ sitting at the bottom – a reference to the Clown Prince himself.
The details don’t stop there, the 45mm casing has a large titanium bezel which is engraved by lasers to feature a Joker motif around its entirety. Turn the watch over and the impressive engraving continues, with a comic book version of the Joker etched into the casing. The back also notes which of the mere 100 pieces you own.
The watch dial itself is grey, black, red, white, and green. The dial’s hued grey and black colour scheme is hand painted and a reference to the Joker’s own war paint. RJ assures that the painting on each of the 100 pieces will have slight variations. The watch’s subdials in black have white and green indices respectively, again in reference to the Joker.
The watch is presented on a Joker purple strap, a green strap, or a black rubber one. The straps can easily be swapped out by pushing the ‘Batman’ buttons on the watch’s bottom lugs.
The watch is powered by RJ’s own in-house movement, allowing for the chronograph functions, as well as the date, and a 40 hour power reserve.
Though this watch’s release comes swiftly after the Joker film debut, the watch itself pays tribute to a more comic book-related Joker rather than the Arthur Fleck we see in the film, a villain more rooted in reality.
The watch is ready for purchase for US $17,900 or AED 65,500. Check it out here.
