Rick and Morty season 4 is half as long as promised new trailer reveals
After a lot, and we mean a lot of waiting, the first true trailer for Rick and Morty season four is here, and as we feared, it’s not a lot to go off.
Being a Rick and Morty fan comes with the caveat of having to wait literal years between the release of any new content. The wait between season two and three was around a year and a half, and similarly the wait between the second and third is over two years.
Still, we have a trailer to look at, almost two minutes, it showcases five episodes for us to look forward to. Yes, only five. The trailer’s narrator even says it’s “half the season you deserve, all the season we could handle”. This fourth wall-breaking interjection comes as the show’s creators previously promised season four to be 10 episodes strong.
Watch the trailer below:
The trailer shows our Rick-iest Rick and Mort-iest Morty going on another batch of whacky, funny and nihilistic adventures, ranging from the return of Mr. Meeseeks, to a Ricky Gervais app-developing alien, to Morty becoming some kind of vampire monster.
Rick and Morty’s third season ended a lot differently to the others, it ended happy. Morty and Summer seem UN-emotionally scarred from all their adventures with Rick. Beth and Jerry are happily married again and Rick needs the family more than they need him.
Justin Roiland, one half of the brain responsible for creating the show, has previously assured these massive long waits are going to be around for the future of the show, of which a further seven seasons are rumoured.
As Roiland told Polygon: "We're not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We're going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It's going to be really cool."
Dan Harmon, the other side of the brain, also chimed in recently saying to Entertainment Weekly that: "I don't know how fast we can do it, but I know it will never be this long again. There were so many things that had to be settled before we even started season 4, and it's really safe to say - as Justin says - we're literally writing season 5 while finishing season 4 just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule."
What is certain is the wait for wait for season four’s start is not far, first airing on November 10.
