The Logan Paul vs. KSI rematch is confirmed and this time it's going to be violent
Just over a year ago, YouTube sensations KSI and Logan Paul made headlines for one of the most popular boxing matches in recent times. The event ended in a draw, and finally the rematch will take place very soon.
Drawing in an online audience of more than 1.3 million people back in August of 2018, the KSI vs. Logan Paul grudge boxing match became the largest YouTube sporting event, and one of the most lucrative.
Tickets for the YouTube stream were going for around US $9, multiply that by 1.3 million and you have almost US $12 million made from the pay-per-view stream alone.
The match between US Logan Paul and UK KSI for the title of YouTube Boxing Champion (yes, that’s real) ended in a six round majority draw.
After months of speculation, it’s finally been confirmed that a rematch is going down in L.A’s Staples Center after the first fight took place in England at the Manchester Arena. Both stadiums have a capacity of 21,000.
This rematch is different from the first bout, the headgear is off, the gloves are down to 10 oz, this means the gloves are lighter and you can often perform a more powerful punch, it is in fact the size Floyd Mayweather prefers.
The match is going from an amateur match to a professional one, with both YouTubers claiming they aren’t holding back and Paul going as far to say “I give him [KSI] 90 seconds.” And that it’s “going to be super violent”.
KSI also posted a confirmation video, though less arrogant than Paul's, he said "There will be no draws":
The event is taking itself more seriously as a boxing event rather than the ‘Biggest Internet Event’ as it did last year. The match is being promoted by Matchroom Boxing USA’s Eddie Hearn, one of the industry’s biggest promoters.
Hearn has hyped up matches such as Joshua vs Klitshcko at the 02 Arena with over 90,000 in attendance which has been named one of the biggest fights in boxing history. To add to the validity of the fight as a sporting event, it’s being streamed on DAZN rather than YouTube. DAZN is a live-streaming service made for sports fans, meaning that people wanting to tune into the fight will need a subscription to the service.
The match is set to take place on November 9 at the Staples Center.
