On Tom Hiddleston's love affair with Ralph Lauren
Best friends don't just make you feel good. They make you look good.
Or at least that's the case with Tom Hiddleston, who, despite being a big Hollywood star, and thus likely to receive a thousand suits from a thousand tailors, has found his eternal red carpet wingman: Mr Ralph Lauren.
Best friends are always your first port-of-call. Which is what seems to be the case at the Broadway opening of his latest stage hit Betrayal. Hiddleston, a man that seems to have a fail-safe uniform of navy, did the same again, pairing a blue-so-dark-it's-almost-black with all the right kit elsewhere: coordinating tie, diamond white pocket square and classic black Oxfords below.
All by Mr Ralph Lauren, naturally.
Best friends are always there. And the US label has been an ever-present companion at such events. At Wimbledon, the 38-year-old again went for the outfit's top rung Purple Label in a similar get-up. An appearance at SiriusXM Studios in New York saw a rejig of the classic formula, with Hiddleston melding stripes-on-stripes (once considered a no-no) for one cohesive suit.
Best friends are reliable. Ralph Lauren has been just that. The designer's signature strain of Ivy League prep is easily translated beyond a Hamptons fundraiser, and has served Hiddleston well at an abundance of different events. Granted, you might not be doing a whip round for a presidential candidate anytime soon (not yet, anyway), but Hiddleston's best mate can be anyone's for any invitation that demands a semblance of smartness.
That's not to say your own best mate is now redundant. We're sure they're very pleasant. But look to Tom Hiddleston's inner circle (and indeed, a foolproof navy choice), and yours may well grow too.
