Acer unveils its $14,000 gaming cocoon, Predator Thronos Air
Acer is proving that if you want to be taken seriously in your gaming set up these days, a dual monitor rig just isn’t going to cut it. Acer’s latest gaming ‘Thronos’ is proof of how far you can take your gaming experience.
Creating some kind of middle link between reality and virtual reality, Acer has unveiled its latest addition to its family of Predator Thronos gaming seats.
The term ‘seat’ is used very loosely as this US $14,000 behemoth is more of a cocoon or exoskeleton, creating a gaming experience that totally consumes you.
The latest Thronos Air is a giant steel cage that allows for up to three gaming monitors to be mounted, the monitors are hooked up to a massive mechanical arm that arches over the gamer to fully immerse them.
The rig comes with an ultra-customisable massage gaming chair which can also recline, along with optional cup holders, cameras and headset holders. The camera is especially useful as to show everyone you’re sitting in a gaming chair worth nearly US $15,000.
The keyboard, mouse and other peripherals all have to be bought separately but then can be integrated into the throne with the various stands and holders. The chair also has a series of ambient lights across the arm, side panels and back panel that can be customised.
The Air sits alongside its big brother, the Predator Thronos. Unveiled last year, the non-Air version is more than US $6,000 more expensive but it has all of its features motorised. The arm doesn’t need to be pulled down, the foot rest comes up automatically and all the peripherals and screens are included in the price.
The new Air variant comes in slightly cheaper and allows more freedom as the user can pick the monitor(s) and peripherals that best suit them. Pulling the arm down yourself could also provide some much needed exercise as hours melt away sitting in your cocoon.
The chair is expected to go on sale before the end of the year.
