How to create your own Augmented Reality filters on Instagram
Yesterday Facebook opened its Spark AR augmented reality tool to the public.
It lets Instagrammers create and share their own AR-powered effects. According to Facebook, the tool will go live as a public beta.
Earlier this year, the social media giant teased new AR-powered effects for the picture-sharing platform. While the tool was previously only available to developers and preferred Instagram users, yesterday it became accessible to everyone.
According to the company, it doesn’t matter how well-versed you are with technology or coding, ‘everyone can be a creator’.
The Spark AR app gives users a variety of effects, sounds and animations that can be patched together to create a filter. You can also add your own sound effects and objects. There’s also an effect gallery that lets users find ‘niche AR effects from up-and-coming artists’.
While Spark AR is currently in beta, considering the effects have proven wildly popular for social competitor Snapchat, we imagine Facebook’s own AR platform isn’t going anywhere.
To jump right in and start making your own AR filters, you just need to download the Spark AR Studio application to your Mac or PC. Sign in, and then get creating.
