Is Chris Pine too dreamy to play a 47 year old Walter Cronkite in Newsflash?
Chris Pine is set to play the legendary American journalist Walter Cronkite in the upcoming movie Newsflash. But is he the right man for the job?
Undeniably Pine is a beloved actor and a massive name in the Hollywood landscape. Known for his role as Captain Kirk in the recent Star Trek movies, as well as love interest Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman, Pine does a good job of playing a handsome and confident man.
It is now reported that Pine is set to star in an upcoming movie named Newsflash, a film portraying the story of events of the John F. Kennedy assassination in 1963 and the scramble of news channels to report the event.
The main character in these events was a man named Walter Cronkite, once dubbed ‘the most trusted man in America’. Cronkite was a broadcasting legend, serving as the anchorman for the CBS Evening News for almost two decades.
Cronkite was the man who told millions of Americans homes about both the moon landing and the JFK assassination.
During the events covered by the film, Cronkite was 47 years old, had a somewhat raspy voice, a hairline that was failing him and overall an aura of an aging gentleman.
While we’re glad Seth Rogan is no longer on the cards to play the broadcasting titan, we’re still raising a few eyebrows on the Pine pick too. Pine is 38 years old, almost a full decade younger than the character. He’s also just too damn handsome, he has a full head of hair, a jaw-line that could give you a paper cut and a far smoother voice.
Twitter, as it always does, has something to say. People online are questioning the casting choice of such a young and youthful actor to play a distinguished older gent.

If you ask us, Brad Pitt would be a better choice, he’s a bit older, he’s a master of accents and he looks a lot more like Cronkite. In this dramatic film, you don’t want people focusing on the makeup magic on making Pine look older, you want to focus on the story.
