Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been cancelled this year
Fans of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show are in for some bad news. The fashion brand has announced that it will not hold the popular show this year as they are trying to revamp the concept for 2020.
Model Shanina Shaik revealed to Australian Daily Telegraph: "Unfortunately the Victoria's Secret show won't be happening this year. It's something I'm not used to because every year around this time I'm training like an Angel."
She added: “But I’m sure in the future something will happen, which I’m pretty sure about. I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world.”
The 2018 Victoria’s Secret fashion show only drew 3.3m viewers, down from 9.7m viewers in 2013. According to a company memo seen by CNBC, Victoria's Secret is "rethinking" the iconic fashion show it hosts annually.
Harper's Bazaar US reports, that according to the memo, sent to employees on May 10 by the CEO of L Brands, a TV broadcast was described as no longer being the "right fit." Instead, Victoria's Secret will apparently move ahead with a "new kind of event."
Les Wexner, the CEO of L Brands which owns Victoria's Secret, apparently wrote, "Fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow. With that in mind, we have decided to re-think the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show."
Wexner continued, "Going forward we don’t believe network television is the right fit. In 2019 and beyond, we’re focusing on developing exciting and dynamic content and a new kind of event—delivered to our customers on platforms that she’s glued to… and in ways that will push the boundaries of fashion in the global digital age."
