Emkwan on YouTube, influence and high-end watches
“It just kind of happened,” says Emkwan, the vlogger, YouTuber and social media star who spends his spare time making videos for more than 150,000 subscribers and fans.
“It started back in University, and at the time I wanted to buy a camcorder. My friend had one he wanted to sell, and I asked to see inside the box. He told me, “the moment I take it out the box it loses its value, go on YouTube and you can see some unboxing videos,” so I did.”
“I went online and watched one video and it was the weirdest thing I had seen – now if I say ‘unboxing video’ to you now, it’s pretty standard. But at the time it was this totally new thing. I remember watching something like 40-50 of them, and then I was just like this is so cool,”
“So I bought the camcorder, then I bought a BlackBerry and made a video. And BlackBerry picked it up, wanted to use it for their developer conference and then gave me a phone for it, and after that I was hooked.”
