Oh no. Beinioff and Weiss are now helping out on LOTR series
David Benioff and DB Weiss have kept a low profile since the end of Game of Thrones, which is perhaps understandable given the flak that got thrown their way by a hardcore of deeply upset - no, not upset, deeply insulted - ultras.
There was that Reddit campaign to get Benioff and Weiss to be the first result on Google if you search for 'bad writers', which is a very specific and unlikely search term but there we go. Then Seth Rogen had a few pops at them during Comic-Con, which Benioff and Weiss swerved despite having originally been slated to appear at a Thrones panel.
They could be back to work on gilt-edged elite TV series soon though. According to Deadline, they're in talks to get involved in Amazon's The Lord of the Rings series as it "would love to have GoT masterminds' input in getting that off the ground".
Netflix is also understood to be sniffing around them, but Amazon currently have a tonne of money and are said to be prepared to spend up to $1,000,000,000 on the series.
A. BILLION. DOLLARS.
HBO itself is fairly relaxed about Benioff and Weiss toddling off to make their enormous fortune and anger Tolkien fans by suddenly turning Gandalf into a vengeful dragon-riding dude who leaves halfway through the Battle of the Pelennor Fields to torch the Shire.
"Any place that they end up at would be lucky to have them," HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys told Deadline yesterday. "I want talent to make as much money as they can."
