Riz Ahmed perfectly executes the big, bulky suit
Watch events are, for the most part, a very extravagant affair.
Lots of drinks. Lots of expensive timepieces. But that needn't mean you dress traditional. On the contrary, Riz Ahmed took a risk, and stayed within the box.
We don't mean this metaphorically, either. At Omega's exclusive dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the 36-year-old boxed up in a suit that tied several statements into one lovely loud voice. Which, in this instance, meant a striped suit, cropped, in a boxy, squared fit and oversized lapels - all from Prada.
Sounds like a lot. That's because it is. But Ahmed manages to pull it all off by one, being a man as cooly confident with the name of Riz Ahmed, but also by sticking to a muted colour palette throughout.
Monochromes lend themselves far better to the left-field as opposed to, say, fluoros, and the general zeitgeist is predisposed to bigger fits: think of Balenciaga's dad suits, for example, and the ever-widening trousers endorsed by a certain Sebastian Stan.
