Dwayne The Rock Johnson releases new wireless earphones
There are more than a few reasons to drop some money on a pair of wireless in-ear headphones for working out.
They're small and easy to pack in a gym bag. They leave your hands, arms, and neck wire-free for unencumbered movement through your reps. But those Apple AirPods you might already own just aren't built to keep up with exercise. And there's a very good reason you'll want to consider these wireless in-ear headphones from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Under Armour line: They're built to be durable, with industry-best audio technology.
But don't kid yourself too much. We know the real reason you're eyeing these earbuds is because they just might channel all that Rock intensity through your eardrums and into your workout, and you'd like to feel even a percentage of the energy that the Rock feels when he crushes a set.
The Project Rock True Wireless In-Ear Headphones, which are available now on Under Armour's website, are tough. They are fully water-proof and sweat-proof, enough so that you could dunk them in a pool and they wouldn't mind a bit. They come with three different winged ear tips, allowing you to choose the correct size that won't budge during a run.
All the music and talk controls are accessed through the little brahma bull button—the Rock's signature talisman from his Project Rock line that symbolizes positive energy flow.
As for the audio, it's supplied by JBL, one of our favorite brands for water-proof Bluetooth speakers, and features an "exclusive Rock-tuned sound curve" for deep, bold bass. For those who like to chat during workouts, JBL's Talk-Thru technology lets you drop down the music volume and amplify speech with noise-cancelling mics so you don't have to take out the buds.
For those who want pure, uninterrupted music, JBL's Ambient Aware technology makes sure you're still tuned into your surroundings. It's not quite noise-cancelling, but it's close (and safer when you're in a busy gym setting). As The Rock said in an Instagram post, they're "like a fine tequila in your ear." Nice.
The charging case for these Project Rock earbuds is especially cool thanks to its gold color and attached carabiner for easy carrying. The buds hold five hours of charge, and the case holds an additional 20. When you don't need a charge, there's a smaller utility carrying case that barely takes up any space.
At AED800, The Rock's earbuds are positioned in the upper price range for wireless headphones and workout headphones. (They're on par with the price of Bose's truly wireless earbuds.) But if you plan on putting in serious time at the gym, and the motto "Blood. Sweat. Respect." rings true to you, consider investing. Then jack up the volume on your workout music—The Rock made his own "Iron Paradise Airwaves" playlist available on Spotify, in case you'd like more Rock inspiration—and get to it.
