McLaren has a new $204,000 GT model car
McLaren has a brand new $204,000 GT model car that focuses more on drive than racing. The new car, the McLaren GT, made its big debut at the 2019 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The Woking-based company revealed the car two months ago. It’s been making a tour of McLaren showrooms since then, but the Festival was the first time the opublic got a glimpse of the car famously driving up the Goodwood hill.
According to the official release, the car uses a new version of its carbon-fibre MonoCell – which will be built in a new factory in Sheffield, having previously sourced all its chassis from Austria – called the II-T, or “Touring”. This includes a new part of the structure at the rear to create a luggage area.
In addition to a lower engine, this gives the McLaren GT a 420-litre luggage area behind the driver.
The space is pretty big and can accomodate skis and golf clubs. It can be accessed via a fully glazed, soft-close tailgate, and it even has the option of an optional electric opening/closing feature.
This new car has been designed for customers who want to get the extra mile out of their long-distance drives. Comfort is king in this car and McLaren has re-engineered the seating so that it's comfort driven and easier to get in and out.
The star feature of this car however is its engine. According to official statistics, the McLaren GT will go for around 400 miles between fuel stops whilst still delivering McLaren-like performance, with 60mph coming up in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 203mph.
