Spotify introduces Lite version in the UAE
Spotify has unveiled Spotify Lite, a simplified version of its mobile app for Android.
The app is being rolled out across 36 countries, with the UAE being one of them.
The general idea is to make the service accessible to anyone, no matter the smartphone or network quality. Spotify Lite is similar to the regular app, but highly simplified to keep data costs and speeds down as much as possible.
Users will still be able to search music, artists, save songs, use playlists, etc. Spotify Lite will work for both paid and free subscriptions.
The new app requires just 10MB or data on a smartphone. The app is currently available on Google Play stores in the UAE and Egypt. A version for the iPhone is apparently under consideration.
Spotify is not the first tech company to invest in lighter apps. Twitter has a version of its app that works over text messaging. Facebook has a lighter app aimed at users in rural areas, where data speeds are far lower than urban cities.
