This Netflix hack will turn your phone into a rumble-pack
Memories of your childhood can be very misleading.
One which remains pin-sharp, though, is the first time you played a game which made the controller in your hands buzz and leap about, shaking your puny arms and filling you with terror and excitement. It felt like discovering the fourth dimension.
Now, a Netflix hacking day has injected a bit of that thrill into the experience of watching telly. Project Rumble Pack started as a fun experiment in haptics - that's just tech based on the sense of touch - and took inspiration from mobile gaming to vibrate and rumble along with whatever you're watching.
Have a look.
Obviously that's going to be more fun and immersive if you're watching Platoon rather than Instant Hotel but nonetheless: very tidy.
In the past these hacking days have turned out interesting tidbits like an interface which is entirely controlled via your brain rather than the remote control and a hack which links your Fitbit to the service so that it turns off when you've fallen asleep, but so far there's no sign of whether they'll ever come to the market version.
