Uniqlo goes for old-school Tennis style with Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori
The 2019 French Open kicks off this week, and while we can't tell you how the Grand Slam tournament is going to shake out in terms of the competition, we've already got some early contenders for best-dressed on the courts of Roland-Garros. Uniqlo global brand ambassadors Roger Federer and Kei Nishikori are both wearing standout gear with a distinctly throwback vibe that feels just right for right now. And (bonus!) you can buy the exact same stuff at Uniqlo for yourself.
Federer's beige-and-off-white kit is directly inspired by the toned-down, super-stylish look of tennis in the late '70s and early '80s. And while Uniqlo doesn't call out a specific era in reference to Nishikori's bright, color-blocked fits, they feel right in-line with the '90s trend that's still going strong. Whatever your preference—subtle or bold—both players are looking damn good.
"I had frequent consultations with the development team, and I'm extremely pleased with the game wear they've created," Federer said in a statement. "This will be my first appearance at Roland-Garros since 2015, and I'm looking forward to playing in Uniqlo game wear." Nishikori is also pleased. "I am really looking forward to competing in the French Open wearing the game wear created together with Christophe Lemaire and the Paris design team," he said. "The vivid colors to match the Paris season will inspire me to achieve my best result."
The entire collection is available now. Take a look, pick your favorites, and suit up for summer—no actual tennis skills required.
