Some great deadlifts tips from Coach Cornel! #Repost @ene.uae (@get_repost) ・・・ Back to basics. Form first. ☝️ - Read on as I am going to list ten ways you can improve your deadlift. Be it sumo or conventional. - 1. Deadlift more. If you’re currently deadlifting once per week, think about deadlifting 1.5-2 times per week (3 times per fortnight). If you’re currently deadlifting 1.5-2 times per week, think about deadlifting 2-3 times per week. - 2. Vary your rep ranges. Ideally, consider incorporating a strength-based rep range (3-5 reps) as well as a hypertrophy-based rep range (8-15). - 3. Don’t train consistently to failure. With deadlifts, rarely train to failure at all. Focus instead on progressive overload and leaving reps in the tank. You can’t consistently improve upon failure sets (think about it), but you can consistently add a rep or a cheeky 2.5kg over time. - 4. Make sure the bar is over your mid foot and the shoulders are over the bar before you pull. - 5. Minimise the energy you spend pulling by ensuring an efficient bar path - aim to pull the bar up your shins/quads and keep it close to your body so your bar path is as straight up and down as possible. - 6. Start with arms ahead of you, reaching with 'long arms', then locking your lats down to get TIGHT. Ensure you maintain active tension throughout the lift by turning your lats on (think about squeezing a playing card under your armpit). - 7. Focus on sitting back and getting your weight behind the bar - think about almost rocking back so that holding into the bar prevents you from falling backwards. - 8. Pull the slack from the bar before you attempt to pull the weight - don't 'yank' the bar from the floor. - 9. Think about attempting to accelerate the movement as the bar breaks the ground. This will teach you good habits as you lift heavier loads. - 10. Drive your hips through while maintaining posterior pelvic tilt and pull shoulders back to lock out. - Tag your gym buddy and save this post for later use if you found it helpful.
