In detail: Jennifer Lopez’s US$1.5 million engagement ring
Last night J-Lo and A-Rod got engaged (you can read why the world will never – ever – be the same right here).
While the internet lost its collective mind around this new celebrity engagement, most people’s eyes were fixated on the rock weighing down Jennifer Lopez’s dainty hand on Instagram. It certainly looks the business, but beneath the social media hype is the engagement ring more than just a shiny piece of jewellery?
To find out, we asked Fergus James, founder and CEO of leading diamond jewellery e-retailer FergusJames.com, his opinion on Jennifer Lopez’s brand new engagement ring.
“Obviously, without being able to see the ring up close and personal there’s quite a bit of speculation around the size and the quality of the ring,” says James. That said, there’s still quite a lot to be gained from that single image.
For one, your eyes are not deceiving you – it’s stunning. “The diamond is a great example of an emerald shaped diamond, which is cut using the ‘step cut’ format,” says James. “This gives the diamond that beautifully elegant glassy appearance”.
The cut here is rather important. According to James, diamond shapes will vary massively according to the cut. “Step cut shapes vary depending on cut quality and the spread of the Diamond. We believe that J-Lo’s diamond is a 10ct D-E Colour FL – VVS1 diamond”. That means it should offer superior colour and clarity.
The big question: How much would J-Lo’s engagement ring cost? “Considering the size and specification of this diamond, we’d say it would retail for anywhere between US$1 million and US$1.5 million,” says James.
“Her diamond follows the general latest trend for large diamonds to be fancy shaped (as opposed to round in shape).” It’s certainly a hefty-looking ring.
Jennifer Lopez and A-Rod are currently vacationing in the Bahamas. A-Rod proposed after putting a sickeningly sweet poem about finding his soul mate on Instagram Stories, then obviously popped the question.
“From all of us at the Fergus James Team, we’d like to wish J-Lo all the best on her engagement. Fifth time lucky!”
We couldn’t agree more.
